On Thursday, September 27th during 2nd period the popular YA author Katherine Marsh spoke to Tappan students in the auditorium about her acclaimed new multicultural book, Nowhere Boy that came out in August.
She did some reading from the book, answered questions, and told us about her experience as a popular author.
The Literati bookstore downtown worked with Mr. Kipp, Tappan Media Center teacher, to generously provide this opportunity to Tappan free of charge. Literati also supplied first edition hardcover copies of the Nowhere Boy book for students to purchase and get them signed by the author. Order forms are in the media center, email Mr. Kipp for more info.
The program was an excellent opportunity for students to learn about the book, what it is like being an author and going about the creative writing process, and current international events such as the Syrian refugee crisis.
Book summary:
Fourteen-year-old Ahmed fled a life of uncertainty and suffering in Syria, only to lose his father on the perilous journey to the shores of Europe.
