March 1st is here, which means it's time to celebrate Reading Month. This year the Tappan ELA department is partnering with the Tappan Library Media Center to bring you a month of amazing reading opportunities. To make this month become more successful than ever we would like to invite you and your students to participate in as many of the following opportunities as possible.
Reading Month Opportunities:
1. Book Drive--Let the competition begin! Encourage your advisory to bring in slightly loved books to class. The Advisories at each grade level that collect the most books will earn an ice cream party. Books may only be collected March 6-10th.
2. March Madness Book Brackets--This year we are pairing our most checked out books against award winning titles and authors. Advisories are invited to cast votes on this google doc for each round to determine which titles move towards the championship. Students are encouraged to complete individual brackets and turn them into the library for a chance to win a prize if their bracket matches the school's selections. All student brackets must be turned in before Advisory on Monday, March 6th.
3. DEAR--We are offering Drop Everything and Read time for any teacher and class who would like to participate. These will take place on the following dates and times so anyone participating can plan ahead of time:
March 7th--2nd Hour
March 15th--5th Hour
March 23rd--3rd Hour
4. Door Decorating--Select a favorite book as an Advisory class and have students bring it to life on the outside of your door. Participating rooms will be judged and prizes will be awarded to winning doors. Doors must be decorated by March 17th to be scored by judges.
5. Mystery Readers--We need voices! Sign up here to be recorded as one of our mystery readers. We will put you in an anonymous video and then have students guess who you are during Advisory class. Students will be able to place their guesses in the Media Center for a chance to win prizes.
Thanks everyone. Please reach out if you have any questions.
Cheers and Read on,
The March is Reading Month Team
